Movie Review Fantastic 4 First Steps

Just watched the new Fantastic 4 movie, and I must say it is the best version of these heroes that I have ever seen portrayed on the big screen. But the movie just felt so….MEH. For the longest time I couldn’t figure out why. I love the characters, and I love their chemistry. Performances were good all around. But I think the issue is that there was little to no character growth. Sue has some good character moments, but no real growth. She just IS. Johnny also gets a chance to grow from “character that everyone thinks is a goof” to “hero who sacrifices himself” but then that choice is subverted at the last moment and no real sacrifices are made. In a twist at the end of the movie, all the stakes have been negated as well. What we are left with then is a movie that tries to have heroes going up against cosmic, world ending consequences, but none of those consequences end up being real. Not even a single bystander is injured by this cosmic world eater foe. Still the best in this series but that’s not saying much. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
