Where to find colors your screen cannot display.
I have been stumped many a time attempting to take photos of light filtering through a dense forest canopy. It never seemed to be able to capture what I was experiencing in real life. This article does an excellent job explaining why that is.
I particularly enjoyed the section on birds. Birds can see more colors than we can, because their eyes have been designed with an additional cone for ultraviolet. Accordingly, birds exhibit colors that register to other birds. Some of these colors still register to the human eye, but register far more strongly to other birds that can make use of the extra spectral information.
The author here attributes these spectacular colors to natural selection, but I strongly disagree. God created this world, and the creatures therein, for us to enjoy and steward. Its beauty points back to Him as the designer and artist. I often marvel at the fact that God chose to create such variety in the world, and such resplendent colors for us to enjoy. It's one of many reasons to be thankful every day.
