Inspired by the HeyDingus blog and Today in Tabs, the latter of which I have really missed while it is temporarily Today on Trail instead, I wanted to make a short list of some really cool links that I have come across in the last week. In no particular order, and with no promises of consistency:
Radio-ception On-the-go
This thing is absolutely crazy: Cerambyx64 Mod 01 It is a backpack that is armed to the teeth with just about every radio, sniffer, and tool you could possibly need to hack the airwaves. The write-up from Hackaday has lots more info.
Drive
Loved reading this blog post from Wavelengths, and the accompanying in-browser driving experience provided by Slow Roads. I have a lot of fond memories of being a teenager in a small town and driving around with friends late at night just to hang out and talk about life. Some of the best conversations can be had on roads in the middle of nowhere at midnight.
Cigar Box Music
I don’t even know what I would do with one, but this Cigar Box DAW is excellent! I wish I had the musical prowess to even know what to do with it if I built it. It may be worth building one just for the experience.
Windows Locked in Kiosk Mode
This is quite clever, as is pointed out by Bruce Schneier’s blog post. The trick is that the website “locks” itself in full-screen kiosk mode. Then, it waits for you to put in your username and password, and if you save it, then it uses stealer malware to get the saved credentials out somehow. I never have a good answer when people ask why you should use a password manager instead of just saving credentials in the browser. Now I have feel like I have one really solid reason!
My usual go-to is that you can’t take your browser everywhere, (without logging in to a synced service) and not all passwords are for websites. This has variable degrees of validity to various people.
Bonus: Stamps
This one is just really cool, and I also really wanted to get to at least 5 things. This collection of nature stamps is wildly impressive! Colossal frequently features beautiful art, and I feel like I get to learn a little something new about an artist or artistic process from their blog every day.
